Supervision

Maximising your impact on your clients

As professional business mentors we aspire to be the best we can possibly be at our chosen vocation. Elevate your mentoring practice by discussing the ups and downs of your mentoring case load in confidence with a qualified mentoring supervisor. Reflective practice is a core part of ABM membership and the ABM Code of Conduct, with supervision encouraged at Affiliate and Member level, and mandatory at Fellow.

Improve your mentoring practice by working with a qualified mentoring supervisor.

What is supervision?

Supervision is the formal opportunity for mentors to share their caseload in confidence on a one-to-one or group basis. At the ABM several of our experienced mentors are also qualified supervisors.  You can find their details here.

Benefits of working with a mentoring supervisor.

Supervision is one method of how mentors can stay at the peak of their game. One approach adopted by many supervisors is the framework of Proctor & Inskipp (1993) for the Supervision Programme, which breaks the functions of Supervision down into three key components: Formative, normative and restorative.

Restorative Function

The restorative function is concerned with supporting the mentor to recover after being absorbed within client emotional situations.

Formative Function

The formative function tackles the skills, knowledge and practise of mentoring with the objective to support the mentor to be more effective at their work.

Normative Function

This final function tackles the subject of professional standards in mentoring, including issues such as boundary settings and ethical questions.

What to expect when working with a supervisor

Supervision services are generally supplied as online interactions. They can be provided one-to-one or as group and both provide the opportunity for the member to be supported by a supervisor and peers.

Meet the Supervisors

Book a discovery call with a supervisor to learn more about supervision and how it could positively impact your mentoring practice.

Please note: The ABM is not liable for the supervision that mentors have. The ABM only encourages and sign posts to qualified supervisors.
